A controversial new game that depicts Jesus, Buddha and other religious figures brawling is now available in New Zealand.
Fight of the Gods allows players to choose from a roster of deities and mythological figures including Jesus Christ, Moses, Buddha, Zeus, Anubis and Odin.
The player then fights other gods using elements of their holy iconography as weaponry, with Jesus using a crucifix and Moses using the stone inscribed with Ten Commandments to beat their opponents.
Developed by Taiwanese studio Digital Crafter, the game's official press release invites players to "Watch Jesus and Buddha punch the holy $*!% out of each other".
Player reaction to the game has been mixed, with some commenters on the NeoGaf forum calling it "extremely offensive" and "disrespectful".
"I can't deny to be very uncomfortable watching Jesus being used in a game, especially like this," commented one user.
However, other commenters - including some who identify as religious - have brushed off the game with humour.
"I'm a Christian but Jesus breaking the cross to use it as war gloves is so dumb it's hilarious," stated one commenter.
"I can't understand how some people think religion is somehow untouchable and removed from criticism or satire," added another.
The Office of Film and Literature Classification has been approached for comment.
