New Zealand actor KJ Apa has reportedly crashed his car after falling asleep at the wheel after a long day's filming on US television show Riverdale.
The 20-year-old Auckland-born Shortland Street alumni's accident occurred on the 45-minute drive home after midnight outside of Vancouver, Canada.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apa crashed into a light pole after a "gruelling" 16-hour work day.
The publication reports the incident has "ignited a firestorm of protest" on the Riverdale set, which "routinely requires shoots that last until the early morning hours" without transportation provided.
"They're working these kids from morning until night… someone's going to die," a production member told The Hollywood Reporter.
Apa, who plays Archie in the hit Archie Comics adaptation, was discharged from hospital without serious injuries, with the passenger side of the vehicle reportedly receiving most damage.
A meeting between his representatives and Warner Bros, the company that produces Riverdale, is reportedly being set to discuss the issue.
