The Clean, legends of the 'Dunedin sound', are to be inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
The jangly trio whose early 1980s output still has a cult following today, will be inducted at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards at the Dunedin Town Hall on Thursday, September 28.
Brothers David and Hamish Kilgour formed the band in 1978 with Peter Gutteridge, who was eventually replaced by Robert Scott. It was this line-up that released classics like 'Tally Ho!', 'Anything Could Happen' and 'Point That Thing Somewhere Else'.
They split before releasing a full-length album, but reformed in the 1980s and have since released five records - the latest being 2009's Mister Pop.
All four members will be inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame, which honours " songwriters, musicians and acts that have made a significant impact on life and culture through their music".
They'll join previous inductees like Jordan Luck of the Exponents, the Topp Twins, Bic Runga, Supergroove, Dave Dobbyn, Ray Columbus Herbs, Shihad and Dragon.
Hamish Kilgour joked to Fairfax he'd rather have been inducted to the "Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in America, because I think that one comes with some cash".
