David Cassidy has died after being hospitalised in Florida with multiple organ failure.
He was 67.
A representative told E! News: "On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy".
"David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years."
Cassidy shot to superstardom in the early 1970s thanks to his role in musical sitcom The Partridge Family. The show was a huge success and sparked a phenomenon known as "Cassidymania", where the young singer's image was printed on pillowcases, lunchboxes and packs of gum.
Cassidy has openly discussed his struggle with alcohol dependence in recent years. He was arrested for driving under the influence on three different occasions between 2010 and 2014.
In February 2017, Cassidy announced he had been diagnosed with dementia after a disastrous performance in California where he slurred his words and reportedly fell off the stage.
