In a revealing new interview, hip-hop mogul Jay Z has finally admitted to cheating on Beyoncé, his wife of nine years.
The 4:44 artist sat down to open up with New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet.
The rapper admitted the couple's marriage was saved through therapy, after he was unfaithful.
Discussing the pressures of the industry, Jay Z revealed "you have to survive".
"So you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode what happen? You shut down all emotions. So even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can't connect….In my case, like, it's deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity…"
He said therapy helped them come out through the other side, but that isn't always the case. "You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something 'cause most people can't see themselves," he said.
"The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself."
Beyonce and Jay Z have been together for 14 years, and married for nine.
Beyonce addressed her husband's cheating on he 2016 album Lemonade. While neither have ever named the woman he cheated with, Beyoncé referred to her as "Becky with the good hair" in hit track 'Sorry'.
While many speculated Jay Z was caught unawares by Lemonade, Jay Z said during that time "we were using our art almost like a therapy session… [I was] really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released."
He also confirmed the pair worked on a joint album together around the time Lemonade dropped, and that they "still have a lot of that music" that is unreleased.
Jay Z also discussed the current state of his "complicated" relationship with Kanye West.
"I've always been like his big brother, we're both entertainers," he said." It's always been like a little underlying competition with your big brother. And we both love and respect each other's art, too. So it's like, we both everyone wants to be the greatest in the world."
He added "there's genuine love there."
"In the long relationship, you know, hopefully when we're 89 we look at this six months or whatever time and we laugh at that."
