Pamela Anderson is not backing down from comments she made about the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal that were slammed as 'victim blaming'.

The Baywatch star said women accusing the movie mogul of sexual abuse "knew what they were getting into" and shouldn't have met him alone in a hotel room.

Anderson is refusing to apologise for the comments, instead responding to the backlash with multiple explanations on social media.

"I did not say that women deserved being abused or that the pigs like Weinstein were not to be punished. Quite an opposite, I said myself that Weinstein is a sexist pig and a bully," she writes on Instagram.

"So this is not victim blaming but looking at the issue from the angle of women being aware of certain problems and how to spot them and fight them."

Anderson mentioned "self-protection courses" in the post, suggesting women learn martial arts.

In another lengthy Instagram message about the controversy, the 50-year-old moves from defending her comments to discussing her image.

"I believe in love and commitment and common sense. This is why I'm usually married. It is how I feel safe and protected in a sexual relationship."

Anderson calls those who don't tolerate her opinion "pathetic", insisting she is only trying to help women defend themselves from abuse.

"The causes of the problem and solutions are complex and women who do not live in the utopian bubble must be aware of what is going on," she says.

"I do NOT wish apologise for what I said. And will not get coerced into apology. This exactly what I am saying is a problem with the contemporary 'victimhoood feminism'."

Anderson was last seen on the big screen during a small cameo in the Dwayne Johnson film, Baywatch.
