International pop star Sam Smith has been forced to apologise to a writer on Three's The Project after their shared name caused frustration for his New Zealand counterpart.
Initially Smith was confused about the question, not understanding what the problem was with his moniker.
Eventually he apologised, but stressed that it wasn't necessarily his fault and there are many Sam Smiths around the world.
"I'm sorry Sam Smith that you are called Sam Smith, but it's a common name - there's a lot of us out there," he said.
"You can blame my parents."
