In a casting decision no one saw coming, Kristen Wiig has been tipped to join the cast of Wonder Woman 2 as the villainous Cheetah.
Deadline reports the Bridesmaids actress is the hot name for the character, meaning both main roles in the superhero sequel will be women. Gal Gadot will return to reprise her role as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman.

Wiig is best known for her comedic roles in films like Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters and Paul. She also appeared on comic sketch show Saturday Night Live between 2005 and 2012.
Cheetah was first introduced in the Wonder Woman comics in 1943 and has appeared in four incarnations over the past 75 years. There is little known about the setting of the sequel, although various reports are that it will be set in the '80s during the Cold War.
The first film in the franchise was ground-breaking, bringing in over US$800 million (NZ$1.1 billion) and becoming the most successful superhero movie of all time. Patty Jenkins is returning to direct the sequel, which will make her the highest-paid female director of all time.
Wonder Woman 2 is set to be released in December 2019.
