Jimmy Kimmel has returned fire at Donald Trump after the US president mocked the low ratings of this year's Oscars ceremony.
The former Celebrity Apprentice host picked up on news headlines about the Academy Awards broadcast dropping to a reported 26.5 million viewers and joked about it in a tweet.
"Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY," Trump tweeted, right after a tweet about nuclear talks with North Korea.
"The problem is, we don't have stars anymore - except your president (just kidding, of course)!"
The 71-year-old real estate heir has often used Twitter to attack people who work in the entertainment history, many of whom openly criticise him in return.
Kimmel, who hosted the Oscars, was quick to do so.
"Thanks, lowest rated President in HISTORY," he tweeted in reply.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Trump's approval rating is sitting at 40.4 percent, with 54.3 percent in the US disapproving of his presidency.
