Rachel McAdams has revealed her favourite sex scene ever was in her new film Disobedience, saying she and her co-star Rachel Weisz had an "energy" she's never experienced before.
The Mean Girls star told Entertainment Weekly that she and Weisz felt "safe and free" when filming the scene.
"There was energy to that scene that I haven't experienced in any other sex scenes [with men] in my career," she said.
"There was camaraderie to it. We both felt safe and free. All those things that you love about being a woman, you get to be with [in the scene]."
In Disobedience, McAdams plays Esti Kuperman, a married Orthodox Jewish woman in a forbidden relationship with a woman, Ronit Krushka (Weisz). The movie, based on the novel of the same name, includes a graphic sex scene in which Ronit spits into Esti's mouth.
Director Sebastian Lelio told Geek they choreographed the sex scene to make sure it was "perfect".
"That was very organic. It was a long conversation. I always knew that the hotel scene, the big love scene, was the heart of the film. I knew it had to be long. It was all about duration, I mean screen time.
"At the same time, I really wanted to explore the possibility of portraying a very erotic and urgent encounter without nudity, so how to do that. I had this idea of instead of showing skin we would find very specific acts that we rarely see on screen or in these kind of films and go for them," he added.
"That's why I think that scene has a very particular strong identity."
