Smallville star Allison Mack has pleaded not guilty on charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and conspiracy to commit forced labour.
The 35-year-old was arrested for allegedly recruiting young women into a sex cult called NXIVM, and faces 15 years in prison if she's convicted.
She was reportedly apprehended in New York by the FBI, following the arrest of NXIVM leader Keith Raniere in March.
It's alleged Mack recruited sex slaves for Raniere in exchange for "financial and other benefits", according to prosecutors. She's believed to have been the second-highest ranking member, beneath Raniere.
Smallville gave Mack her big break during its run from 2001 to 2011, playing journalist Chloe Sullivan. Mack was reportedly lured into the group by co-star Kristin Kreuk, who left in 2012.
It's reported Mack was instrumental in coming up with the idea to brand the cult members using a cauterising pen.
Prosecutors have asked the court to set Mack's bail "extremely high", considering her a flight risk. That hearing will be on Monday (local time).
