An exhilarating trailer has been released for the long-awaited Freddy Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, giving audiences a taste of actor Rami Malek's portrayal of the music legend.
The film promises it is a "a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet."
The trailer shows Malek as Mercury throughout his musical career, singing iconic performances of hits like 'Killer Queen' and 'We Are The Champions', and delivering one-liners in the Queen front man's unique accent.
The Mr. Robot actor said he was "terrified" to play the icon in an interview with Jimmy Fallon last year.
Queen guitarist Brian May had somewhat more faith in the Golden Globe winner, telling Rolling Stone he thought Malek was the "perfect choice to recreate the fabulous Queen years".
The trailer, which is approaching two million views on YouTube, comes eight years after the biopic was first announced.
In 2010 Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen was selected to play Mercury, but but was dropped after arguments with Queen band members. Brian May later called Baron Cohen "an arse".
The trailer also offers fans an opportunity to go to a website and record themselves singing the titular song for a chance to have their voice added to the film.
Bohemian Rhapsody will be in New Zealand cinemas in November.
