A representative for pop star Demi Lovato has confirmed she is "awake and with family" after being rushed to hospital for an alleged drug overdose.

The 25-year-old's spokesperson shared a statement with NBC news, where they passed on gratitude from Lovato's family.

"Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.

"Some of the information being reported is incorrect…her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."

According to TMZ, paramedics found the singer unconscious in her home and revived her with Narcan, an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses.

The gossip website now reports a source close to the singer says the overdose was not caused by heroin, despite initial reports.

Lovato's aunt, Kerissa Webb Dunn, took to social media to post a series of updates which she later deleted; including one asking for prayers following the incident.

"“PLEASE PLEASE pray for my sweet niece DEMI LOVATO. She has been hospitalized and needs everyone’s prayers desperately!!!! PLEASE PRAY she pulls through,” she wrote, before deleting the status.

In March she celebrated her six year milestone of sobriety, but recently released a song, 'Sober', admitting she had fallen off the wagon and was no longer sober.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department says it responded to a medical emergency near Hollywood Hills for a 25-year-old female, but could not confirm the woman was Lovato.

The singer has a history of battles with drug addiction and went into rehab in 2010.

Lovato revealed in a 2012 documentary that she was "sneaking [cocaine] on planes" and was "sneaking it into bathrooms, sneaking it throughout the night... I went on a bender of, like, two months where I was using daily," reports Page Six

Friends of the singer, including Ariana Grande, have tweeted their support since the news broke of her alleged overdose.

British singer Lily Allen also tweeted her thoughts, saying: "Poor beautiful spirit @ddlovato I hope she's ok, and that she makes a full recovery soon."
