According to TMZ, law enforcement sources say a group of people were arrested after cyber communications were discovered detailing the plan to break in to the pop star's US$8.3 million mansion.
The police inadvertently came across the evidence while making arrests for unrelated criminal activity. The LAPD have since added "extra patrols" around the 'Skyscraper' hitmaker's home.
Lovato was rushed to hospital on July 24 after she was discovered unconscious by friends. She was reportedly revived by emergency services who administered Narcan, a treatment for opioid overdoses.
The singer broke her silence on the incident earlier this month with an emotional note to her fans.
"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," she wrote.
"What I've learned is that this illness is not something disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet."
Upon her release from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Lovato reportedly took a private plane to a rehabilitation facility outside of California.
