Then, their lives were turned upside down: Pip Brown, aka Ladyhawke, found out she had cancer.
The first signs of cancer appeared in a mole map and then Brown had the offending mole cut out, only to find out it was invasive melanoma.
"Initially there's not much a doctor can tell you when you get your first results back cause then you have to go and get more tests and biopsies and things like that," Sami told Three's The Project.
"So that first kind of initial diagnosis was a bit of a mystery. Your mind wanders."
But the story has a happy ending. Thanks to surgery, and the love and support of those close to her, Brown's now revealed she's beaten the cancer.
She said the experience had changed her mind set and she encouraged people to make sure they kept on top of their health.
"I can't stress that enough, if there's something you've been putting off, checking a mole for example, go see your doctor and get it checked out," she said.
Sami chipped in with some additional advice of her own for viewers, make sure you always wear sunscreen.
