James Gunn working on Suicide Squad 2 - and Dave Bautista wants to star in it

James Gunn is writing and possibly directing the sequel to Suicide Squad after being dumped from Marvel by Disney.

The filmmaker was booted off his third Guardians of the Galaxy movie following some of his offensive old tweets being publicised as part of a harassment campaign by notorious right-wing troll Mike Cernovich.

Gunn has now switched sides and joined Marvel's rival, DC - and he may be taking some Avengers: Infinity War stars with him.

"Where do I sign up!" tweeted Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, about Suicide Squad 2.

The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy released a group statement asking Disney reconsider its firing of Gunn in July.

Bautista in particular has not held back in his criticism of Disney, saying it felt "nauseating to work for someone who'd empower a smear campaign by fascist cyber Nazis".

Gunn's previous film credits include raunchy, gory romantic comedy Tromeo and Juliet and horror movie Slither. He's said to be taking a "totally new approach" to the new Suicide Squad film.
