Scary trailer released for The Curse of La Llorona

The first trailer has been released for horror movie The Curse of La Llorona and it's being labelled "two minutes of sheer terror".

Based on purportedly real-life reports of the classic Mexican folk-lore terror, the film will use the Weeping Woman tale to scare modern audiences.

The story follows a young, poor woman named Maria whose marriage to a nobleman breaks down. After giving birth to twins, her husband takes off and leaves them.

Consumed by grief and jealousy some time later, she drowns her children and herself, only to be trapped between worlds and spend eternity wailing in the night.

Anyone who hears her cries is then said to have tragedy befall them - and should a child get too close to the supernatural being, she'll drag them into the nearest river for drowning.

James Wan, filmmaker of Saw and The Conjuring, has produced the film, which is the debut directorial feature of Michael Chaves.

The Curse of La Llorona is set for release in April, 2019.
