Dame June Whitfield has died at the age of 93.
The actress had been working in the industry since 1953, when she appeared in the lead role of the radio comedy Take It From Here.
She was known for her work with Terry Scott, who she starred with as husband and wife in Happy Ever After and Terry And June.
In 1992 Dame June took up the role of Edina Monsoon's mother in the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. She played that role until the series' end and reprised it in the 2016 film Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
The movie was her final film credit.
Co-star Joanna Lumley, who played Patsy Stone, shared her upset at the news on Twitter on Sunday (NZ time).
"Sad news just in. The brilliant and gorgeous June Whitfield has sadly passed away at the age of 93. Thoughts go out to her family and friends," she wrote.
