Married At First Sight Australia 2019: Virgin Matthew hospitalised after intimate bath with wife triggers panic attack

Married At First Sight Australia star Matthew Bennett was rushed to hospital during Tuesday night's episode after joining his new wife in the spa triggered a panic attack.

The reality show's resident 'adult virgin' attempted to step up the intimacy with partner Lauren Huntriss with a soak in the tub, but the pressure appeared to be too much for him.

"I'm feeling really crook, I don't know what's going on," the 29-year-old told producers.

Bennett was forced to kneel on the ground and rest his head on the bed as he tried to gather himself.

"When Matthew faces the numerous challenges in this experiment, he can internalise this anxiety and it can manifest physically in terms of muscle tension, dizziness and shortness of breath," psychologist John Aiken said.

The newlywed couple was forced to leave their honeymoon to drive to the hospital, where Bennett underwent tests and was monitored for six hours before getting the all-clear.

Huntriss told producers that, despite the hiccup, the experience had brought the pair closer together.

"I definitely think it was a good bonding experience for Matthew and I," she said.

"It made us forget about everything else. I think it's brought us closer together for sure.

"We are married now and they say 'in sickness and in health', so there I was!"
