"I had pneumonia, and I was septic. Pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there's fluid, there was all kinds of stuff going on," she said.
"I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news, I didn't."
Septis is an inflammatory condition where the body's reaction to an infection leads to tissue and organ damage.
The Sister Act star has been on sick leave from The View for the past month while she receives medical treatment.
"I am up and moving around, not as fast as I'd like to be, but I am OK. I'm not dead," she said.
Goldberg thanked her supporters, and said she will share more about her health scare when she returns to her talk show.
"Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying," she said.
"Even people who aren't huge fans of mine have actually been saying nice thing about me."
