K'Lee breaks down in tears talking 'mum guilt' on Dancing With The Stars NZ

Mai FM host K'Lee choked back tears after her Samba on Dancing With The Stars NZ on Sunday night when asked about how she's coping on the show as a working mum.

Host Sharyn Casey asked the former pop star "how she was doing it all" as a mother of four, having narrowly escaped elimination last week.

"It was really hard last week because I came home, I was really down about being in the bottom two, and then I found out my son was praying to the TV," K'Lee said.

"My four-year-old, going: 'Please, God, don't let my mummy be eliminated'."

The radio broadcaster's week two Cha Cha didn't score well with the judges, landing her second-to-last on the leaderboard, just ahead of Walter Neilands.

As well as presenting the day show on Mai FM and juggling parenting duties, K'Lee said she'd been training hard to improve on the dancefloor.

"I didn't get to spend Easter with them, I go to work during their school holidays," she explained, fighting back tears.

"They're really awesome, they sacrifice a lot my family. They know that we're here because our charity can do something amazing for other kids. They're doing the hard yards with me."

K'Lee chose The Revolution Tour as her charity, a programme which visits schools with the aim of reaching youth who may be struggling with their mental health.

Casey comforted the 'Broken Wings' singer as she became emotional, telling her "you are nailing it".

"You did amazing tonight and honestly, for every working mum out there, we salute you."

Dancing With The Stars NZ airs at 7pm on Sunday and 7.30pm on Monday night on Three. Previous episodes can be viewed on ThreeNow.
