As the final trailer for Avengers: Endgame has been released, it's a good time to look at which major characters are alive - and which are not.
Several major players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) were killed in Avengers: Infinity War, and still more were shown to have died in the films since.
Obviously, there are spoilers below, so quit reading now if you're not up to date.
Thanos snapped his fingers at the end of Infinity War and wiped out half of all life across the universe - but he'd already knocked off a few team members before that.
Killed in Infinity War (before the end):
- Gamora
- Loki
- Vision
- Heimdall
That's already a lot of dead goodies - but the bulk of the heroes who met their demise in Infinity War did so with the most powerful finger snap in cinematic history.
Disintegrated in Infinity War:
- Nick Fury
- Dr Strange
- Spider-Man
- Black Panther
- Star-Lord
- Scarlett Witch
- Groot
- Falcon
- Drax
- Maria Hill
- Mantis
- Winter Soldier
At the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp, the first MCU film to be released after Infinity War, we learned that three more important characters were also turned into black dust by Thanos.
Disintegrated in Ant-Man and the Wasp:
- Hope van Dyne
- Hank Pym
- Janet van Dyne
Despite that massive body count, the enormous MCU still has many heroes left alive. They're getting an incredibly powerful ally in Endgame, too, as confirmed in the end credit sequence of Captain Marvel, along with the latest Endgame trailer.
Alive going into Endgame:
- Thor
- Iron Man
- Captain America
- Okoye
- Hulk
- Nebula
- Black Widow
- M'Baku
- Captain Marvel
- Hawkeye
- Ant-Man
- War Machine
Then there's a collection of characters whose fate at the start of Endgame has not been definitively revealed.
Unknowns going into Endgame:
- Pepper Potts
- Korg
- Goose
- Shuri
- Wong
- The Collector
- Valkyrie
- Ned
And after all that, the bosses at MCU have made no secret that more major characters will be killed in Endgame.
Kiwi audiences will get to see who ultimately lives and dies when the climactic Avengers film opens in cinemas on April 24.
