Disney 'debating' how Deadpool can join Marvel Cinematic Universe - report

Deadpool may be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which could see the Merc with a Mouth fighting alongside the Avengers.

Disney now owns 20th Century Fox and the Marvel franchises that company had rights to - X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four.

However, Deadpool is a very R-rated franchise and part of the reason the MCU is the biggest film franchise in history is due to its family-friendly content.

This week, Disney held an event where it announced its latest earnings and talked about upcoming new releases.

In addition to remakes of Home Alone and Night at the Museum, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the Marvel properties that were Fox's are now under the control of MCU boss Kevin Feige.

"There are debates about whether Deadpool can move seamlessly between R-rated solo outings and PG-13 rated MCU movies," reports Variety's Brent Lang.

"Disney has been very, very disappointed by Fox's slate and the weak financial performance - US$170 million in operating losses - explains why."

Fans may be interested in how a watered-down, family-friendly version of Deadpool would work.

Disney recently announced the fourth phase of the MCU, which includes Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.

The company has not yet given details of any upcoming releases in the Deadpool, X-Men or Fantastic Four franchises.
