New Zealand actor Ray Henwood has died aged 82 years old, Circa Theatre in Wellington has confirmed.

The father of comedian Dai Henwood, Ray appeared in films like Heavenly Creatures and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, as well as being a veteran of the theatre scene.
Last month, Dai gave his dad out shout out on Instagram alongside a childhood photo of the pair at the beach.
"It ain't Fathers Day but I love you Dad," he wrote. "Giving me knowledge and love since '78."
Kiwi actor Jennifer Ward-Lealand paid tribute on Twitter to the man who portrayed a host of historical figures, including Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill.
"Haere atu rā Ray Henwood," she wrote.
"One of Aotearoa's great actors has taken his final curtain call."
Meanwhile, Shortland Street actor Toni Potter shared her condolences for the "kind sweet man and wonderful actor".
In 2006, Ray received a New Zealand Order of Merit from the Queen for his services to film and theatre.
