Liam Hemsworth files for divorce from Miley Cyrus

Australian actor Liam Hemsworth has filed for divorce from US singer Miley Cyrus, a little over a week after announcing their separation.

Hemsworth, 29, has reportedly cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce. The split comes just eight months after their marriage on December 23 last year.

Court documents indicate Cyrus and Hemsworth had a prenuptial agreement and there are "no community assets," reports CNN.

Their separation was confirmed in a statement by the 'Wrecking Ball' singer's representative on August 10 (local time).

"Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and [their] careers," said the statement.

The rep confirmed Hemsworth and Cyrus "remain dedicated parents" to their numerous animals.

The pair, who dated on and off after meeting on the set of the 2009 film The Last Song, were first engaged in 2012 before splitting a year later. They became engaged again in 2016 after rekindling their relationship.

Confirmation of their separation quickly followed reports of Cyrus, 26, getting intimate with Kaitlynn Carter while on holiday in Italy.

The former Disney Channel star's latest song, 'Slide Away', is thought to reveal details about the marriage breakdown, leading fans to believe alchohol and substance abuse may be partly to blame.

Hemsworth has recently been spotted in Australia's Byron Bay while staying with his older brother and fellow actor, Chris Hemsworth.
