The creators of the beloved television show Friends have revealed there are several plotlines they're not proud of.
- 90s sitcom Friends criticised in 2018 for 'homophobia and sexism'
- Friends co-creator shuts down talk of reunion
Speaking at the Tribeca TV Festival's 25th anniversary of the series, Kevin Bright, David Crane and Marta Kauffman relived the highs and lows of making 10 seasons of the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kauffman confessed there were at least two storylines she regretted, both involving Lisa Kudrow's character Pheobe.
One episode saw Pheobe start dating a man who was stalking her twin sister, and in another, she and her boyfriend, played by Charlie Sheen, both catch chickenpox.
It's much harder for me to enjoy the good moments when there are moments in it where I'm going, 'Oh my God, we let that happen? We did that,'" Kauffman said.
Fellow producer Crane admitted: "There are some [storylines] that are better than others."
Crane said while he didn't remember a lot of the jokes he wrote some 15 or more years ago, he occasionally finds himself wondering: "Wow, really? We went with that?"
The show has previously been criticised for its handling of gay and trans characters, as well as problematic themes around bodyweight and the objectification of women.
Crane and Kauffman also told fans they felt that Ross and Rachel would still be together after their emotional reunion during the show's season finale.
