High School Musical star Zac Efron was reportedly flown to hospital after suffering a life-or-death medical emergency while filming in Papua New Guinea.
According to The Sunday Telegraph, the actor was in Papua New Guinea filming a documentary series called Killing Zac Efron when he came down with an infection in the days before Christmas.
Efron was flown to Brisbane, Australia alongside medical professionals who were monitoring his condition. After being treated at St Andrews War Memorial Hospital, Efron is now reportedly in a stable condition.
He remained in the hospital for several days and returned to the United States after getting the all-clear from doctors.
Dr Glenn McKay, the director of Medical Rescue, which oversaw Efron's flight, confirmed to The Sunday Telegraph that the company had assisted a US citizen in his thirties from Papua New Guinea to Brisbane. Dr McKay wouldn't give any more detail.
Killing Zac Efron follows the 32-year-old actor heading into the jungle for three weeks with nothing more than basic gear and a guiding partner.
"I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level," he said in November.
Efron is well-known as the star of High School Musical and for more recently appearing as serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
