Taika Waititi will direct a new horror-comedy television show entitled The Auteur starring Jude Law, US network Showtime has confirmed.
Deadline reports the 30 minute episode series will be a "twisted romance and a glamorous, high wire act of biting satire".
Based on a graphic novel by Rick Spears, James Callahan and Luigi Anderson, it follows a film producer who accidentally traps his production on a backlot with a serial killer in an attempt to make a great horror movie.
Amy Israel, a scripting executive for Showtime, dubbed Waititi "wildly imaginative", billing the show as a "bloody love letter to the movies that will make you simultaneously die laughing and want to run for your life".
Recent Oscar-winner Waititi is set to direct the pilot; however his involvement in the rest of the series will be subject to his busy upcoming schedule.
His Samoan football film Next Goal Wins is currently being edited and he's scheduled to write and direct Thor: Love and Thunder, while he's also attached to a Hollywood remake of Akira and is rumoured to be in talks to helm a Star Wars movie.
