Coronavirus: Suzy Cato sings 'It's Our Time', soothes nation after Civil Defence alert text about COVID-19 lockdown

Kid's TV icon Suzy Cato has taken to social media with a reassuring message after New Zealanders received an emergency text message from the Civil Defence about the COVID-19 lockdown.

The alert, which notified users with a loud alarm, was sent to mobile phones on Wednesday.

"Were you a bit like me when that text came through?" Cato asked her fans via an Instagram video.

"It was like 'woo!', bit of a warning siren.

"It's good to know that message does get through," she continued, explaining the content of the message for anyone who didn't receive it.

"It was just saying that we're going to have to stay where we are tonight for the next four weeks. So, it's getting real. But it's okay guys, everything is gonna be okay."

The Suzy's World presenter said she would include a link to helplines in her Instagram bio for anyone who was feeling "anxious or concerned or overwhelmed" during the lockdown period.

"If you want a bit of fun, some songs and stories and things like that, I'll be here for that. It'd be great to connect with you and find out what you're up to."

The mother-of-two concluded by adressing day one of the COVID-19 alert level 4 lockdown, telling her 16,000 followers: "We'll do it together because 'It's Our Time'," before launching into a line from her much-loved song of the same name.
