Marianne Faithfull has been hospitalised with COVID-19.
The 73-year-old 'Broken English' singer was in lockdown in London when she started to feel unwell, a friend told Rolling Stone. She checked into a hospital and tested positive for the disease, which has killed 64,000 people around the world already - most of them in Faithfull's age range.
"She is stable and responding to treatment," a rep for the singer said in a statement.
"We all wish her well and a full and speedy recovery."
Her diagnosis comes after the COVID-19 death of Adam Schlesinger of rock band Fountains of Wayne, who also composed music for TV shows and movies.
The UK has had more than 40,000 reported cases of COVID-19 and more than 4000 deaths. British experts have predicted a death toll of 20,000 would be a best-case scenario at this stage.
American country singer John Prine is also fighting the virus in hospital.
