The AM Show host Ryan Bridge says he was inundated with angry messages from "haters" the world over after he questioned Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern about the colour of her hair.
In the now-infamous interview, Bridge asked Ardern if she was "going grey" after her partner Clarke Gayford tweeted about dyeing her hair.
The Prime Minister laughed off the query, but not before admonishing Bridge for asking an "impolite question".
The clip quickly went viral and Bridge became a target for people echoing Ardern's sentiment that such questions shouldn't be asked of a person.
"This went around the world," Bridge said on The AM Show on Tuesday.
"I cannot emphasise the number of messages that personally I received from haters around the globe defending Jacinda Ardern. It was like I'd somehow insulted all womanhood by asking about her grey hairs."
Other members of the media weighed in too, as demonstrated by a clip Bridge played from The Today Show in Australia where his exchange with the Prime Minister was analysed.
"Is he the bloke to be asking anyone about their hair?" one of The Today Show presenters asked.
"Check out that little bun thing he's got going on there," he added, referring to Bridge's trademark long hair.
Another of Bridge and Ardern's interactions made headlines this week when an earthquake struck during their Monday morning interview on The AM Show.
Bridge said that as well as being simply "an incredible moment of television", the traction the earthquake clip had gained globally showed the impact our Prime Minister has made overseas.
"The popularity of Jacinda Ardern around the world, I don't think we even comprehend," Bridge said.
