Kings of the Kiwi summer Fat Freddy's Drop and internationally acclaimed pop star Benee have joined the local line-up of Wellington's new summer event Downtown Shakedown.
They are set to join L.A.B., Broods, Sola Rosa and Sunshine Soundsystem, all taking the stage under a giant marquee that organisers intend to erect in Waitangi Park in downtown Wellington.
The December 5 event is an independent venture by Andrew Tuck, one of the organisers of Homegrown Festival, which was postponed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Up to 10,000 fans are expected.
"What an amazing line-up," Fat Freddy's Drop member Hopepa said in a statement.
"We're really looking forward to playing with L.A.B and Benee, and the first-ever Downtown Shakedown is a great opportunity to play outdoors in Freddy's hometown."
Meanwhile, Georgie Nott from Broods says the brother-sister duo is excited to play alongside their favourite Kiwi acts and return to Wellington with some "spicy new music" after finishing their US tour earlier this year and having their European tour cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Reggae outfit L.A.B. called the Downtown Shakedown line-up "killer", adding that "the people of Wellington have been asking for too long when we'd be back".
With much uncertainty around live music events as New Zealand moves through COVID-19 alert levels to fight the spread of the virus, organisers have made a point of promising punters a full refund if the event should not go ahead due to coronavirus restrictions.
Tickets are on sale to the general public now.
