RuPaul has said he's "heartbroken" to learn of the death of Ch Chi DeVayne, a well-loved contestant from RuPaul's Drag Race.
Real name Zavion Davenport, the 34-year-old drag performer was hospitalised last week with a bout of pneumonia following another hospital stay due to suspected kidney failure in July.
Davenport's death was confirmed in a post on the Chi Chi DeVayne Instagram page, in which his family announced the news with "tremendous sorrow".
RuPaul responded to Davenport's passing with a tribute on Twitter, highlighting Chi Chi DeVayne's "generous and loving spirit".
"I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul," he wrote, extending his "deepest sympathy" to the Davenport family.
In a video uploaded to Instagram earlier this week, Davenport asked fans to keep him in their prayers as he fought pneumonia. "I'll be back soon," he told fans.
Chi Chi DeVayne had over 520,000 Instagram followers, having first appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race season 8 before returning to compete in the third series of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars in 2018.
