Actor Lukas Gage didn't miss a beat when he overheard a director who didn't realise he was unmuted on Zoom being less than complimentary about his apartment during an audition.
The Euphoria star shared a clip of the awkward moment on Twitter, grimacing as the director bad-mouthed his "tiny apartment", all the while unaware his microphone was on.
"These poor people live in these tiny apartments…" the director's voice can be heard saying.
"Like, I'm looking at his background, and he's got his TV..." the director continued, before being cut off by Gage.
"I know it's a shitty apartment, that's why you should give me this job so I can get a better one," Gage replied, before attempting to launch into his prepared performance for the audition.
"Oh my God, I'm so, so sorry," the director said after a short pause.
"It's totally fine, listen, I'm living in a 4x4 box, it's fine, just give me the job and we'll be fine."
"I'm mortified," the director responded.
Gage did not name the director in his tweet, but did describe him as "shit-talking" in the caption.
Several other actors praised Gage for sharing the moment, slamming the director for his "disgraceful" behaviour.
Zelda Williams - a fellow actor and daughter of the late Robin Williams - endorsed Gage as being a "graceful, quick-thinking sweetheart," calling on "non-asshole directors" to hire him.
Meanwhile, Glee star Kevin McHale thanked Gage for his tweet, adding: "Actors have to walk out on the plank and be open and vulnerable in an audition and too often the people on the other side have 0 regard for what that takes and how personal it is. F**k 'em. (Also that room is nice & you handled that v well)."
