The Block NZ will be making a comeback in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic forced 'tools down' this year, alongside a Kiwi version of The Masked Singer and a new beach rescue show called Bay Patrol.
The Masked Singer NZ will bring the global singing competition format to New Zealand audiences, featuring Kiwi sports stars, singers and TV personalities performing in front of a panel of judges while disguised in a head-to-toe costume which conceals their identity.
Meanwhile, Bay Patrol follows lifeguards and first responders from Mount Maunganui as they work to keep visitors to the pristine yet dangerous coastline safe.
Three announced the return of the beloved DIY competition and the two new show formats on Tuesday in a content lineup that sees many other Kiwi television mainstays back for another year.
Local comedy series 7 Days, Guy Williams' New Zealand Today and Mean Mums are all also on the slate for 2021, as well as current affairs offerings The AM Show, The Project and more Patrick Gower On: documentaries.
MediaWorks' General Manager of Television Glen Kyne says there's a focus on "homegrown, innovative and compelling content" for the coming year.
"Not only are we bringing back all of your favourite local shows, we’re also creating new ones that are made for, and by Kiwis," he said in a statement.
There will be further programming announcements to come for Three in 2021, as it merges with Discovery Inc, along with Bravo, Three+1, Bravo+1, The Edge TV and The Breeze TV.
