First lady Jill Biden has given some divorce advice to pop star Kelly Clarkson, who recently ended her relationship with her husband of seven years.
Biden appeared on the American Idol winner's talk show and in a teaser clip for the interview shares her thoughts on healing from a break-up - having divorced her first husband before meeting US President Joe Biden in 1975.
"This is what I would say to you if I were your mother," Biden tells Clarkson.
"My mother always said to me, 'Things are going to look better tomorrow. And if you can take one day at a time, things will get better'."
In September, Clarkson described her life as "a little bit of a dumpster" due to her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, with whom she has two children.
But the First Lady was determined to imbue the 'Since U Been Gone' singer with some optimism, telling her: "things happen for the best".
"If I hadn't gotten divorced, I never would've met Joe," Biden tells Clarkson.
"I wouldn't have the beautiful family I have now, so I really think things happen for the best."
"I think, Kelly, over time - I don't know how long it's been for you - but, I think, over time you heal and you're going to be surprised," Biden continues.
"And I can't wait until that day comes for you... you're gonna call me up and say 'Hey Jill, you were right!'."
