Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's high-profile divorce reportedly "came together quickly" as the estranged couple "basically wanted the same thing", according to a source.
It was revealed on Friday (local time) that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, 40, had filed for divorce from the acclaimed rapper, 43, after almost seven years of marriage.
News of the divorce followed a turbulent year for the estranged couple, who were dogged by rumours of a legal separation amid West's public battle with mental illness.
Kardashian is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their four young children: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 21 months. It has been reported that neither West nor Kardashian will contest their prenuptial agreement.
The reality television star is said to be "sad but relieved" over the proceedings, but is ready to "finally move on", a source told People.
"She is doing okay. She is sad but ready to move on," the insider revealed.
It has been reported that West's battle with bipolar disorder will not affect their joint custody arrangement.
The source said the couple's parenting plan and split of assets "came together quickly", and the two are in the advanced stages of sorting their property agreement.
"Kim and Kanye basically wanted the same thing," said the source, as reported by People.
The source added Kardashian is being "gentle and kind as she can be" with West to avoid sparking "another tailspin". The rapper has a history of erratic behaviour, including embarking on an unlikely bid for the US presidency - during which he revealed the couple had considered aborting their eldest daughter - and sharing several concerning rants on Twitter.
"She's worried about sending him into another tailspin because that's not good for anyone," the source continued.
Last year, the mother-of-four addressed her estranged husband's battle with mental illness in a lengthy statement, calling the rapper a "brilliant but complicated person".
A different source told E! News that the divorce had been "a long time coming" and the star was "confident in her decision".
The two started dating in 2012 and became engaged in 2013. The couple wed in May 2014 in Italy after welcoming their eldest daughter, North. The divorce is Kardashian's third, following her elopement with music producer Damon Thomas in 2000, which ended in 2004, and her short-lived marriage to former NBA player Kris Humphries. The two were wed for just 72 days before Kardashian filed for divorce, which was finalised in 2013.
