Peter Williams is leaving his role at Magic Talk radio, effective immediately, MediaWorks announced on Monday.
The 67-year-old broadcaster has decided to retire after nearly half a century in the media industry, wanting to enjoy life with fewer commitments, the company says.
Williams has hosted the station's 9am - 12pm slot since it launched in 2019. He'd previously worked at TVNZ news since 1979.
On Twitter, Sean Plunket - who also left Magic Talk this year - posted a tribute to Williams, hailing him as an "absolute gent and professional".
"I wish Peter Williams all the very best for his future following his departure from Magic Talk," said Plunket.
Meanwhile, Magic Talk has also announced Lloyd Burr is joining as the new drive show host at the end of the month.
Burr has recently returned to New Zealand after almost three-and-a-half years in the role of Newshub Europe Correspondent.
"Radio has always been my first love and I'm chomping at the bit to get back into it," said Burr.
MediaWorks also announced Dallas Gurney has been appointed as Director of News and Talk having previously worked at Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport.
