Sir Elton John will appear on The Project NZ on Thursday night for his only Kiwi interview ahead of the release of his new album, The Lockdown Sessions.
The music legend will reveal the New Zealand artist he most wants to collaborate with, his thoughts on the next generation of rising music stars and will recall how he felt about being too ill to finish his Auckland show in 2020.
"I hate letting people down. The ambulance guys were there, and I was determined to get back out there for the second set," John told The Project hosts in the pre-recorded interview, set to air tonight.
"David, my manager, said 'you're not going on', and I said 'yes I am!' I got through 'Love Lies Bleeding', 'Burn Down The Mission', 'Daniel' and then nothing came out of my throat."
The 'Rocketman' hitmaker insisted he intends to return to Aotearoa to make up for the missed shows, planning to say "thank you and farewell to the New Zealand public" in either 2022 or 2023.
John will also discuss his first number-one single in 16 years, the Pnau remix of 'Cold Heart' featuring Dua Lipa, one of the collaborations from his forthcoming Lockdown Sessions album.
The record also features tracks with Eddie Vedder, Gorillaz, Lil Nas X, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Years & Years, Young Thug, and more.
The Project NZ airs on Three at 7:00pm Monday-Friday, and can also be streamed on ThreeNow.
