Queen Elizabeth II has been told to give up the daily booze as she prepares for one of the most significant periods of her reigns, according to a new report.
Vanity Fair reports the 95-year-old monarch has been advised by her doctors to stop with her evening martinis and stick to only having alcohol at special occasions. Sources close to the Queen say her doctors want her to be as healthy as possible for her busy Northern Hemisphere Autumn schedule and for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations next year.
"The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini," the outlet reports a family friend as saying.
"It's not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she's having to give up one of very few pleasures."
Vanity Fair says her favourite beverage is a dry martini. She apparently enjoys a glass of wine at dinner and has a taste for the zaza cocktail - gin and Dubonnet. But her doctors are now cracking down and telling her to stick to water and soft drinks.
The Daily Mail, which said the monarch was "ordered to quit drinking", also has sources saying she will give up the daily drink, but not for any specific medical issue. Rather, the Daily Mail says it was a "personal decision" ahead of a big upcoming year. She will still dabble in alcohol here and there.
It's a stressful time for the world's current longest-reigning monarch. Beyond having to think about the seemingly endless scandals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle find themselves in as well as the potential legal battle her son Prince Andrew may soon be in, the Queen also lost her husband earlier this year.
Having spent most of the last 18 months away from the public due to COVID-19, the Queen has been getting out more and more in recent months and was this week spotted with a cane for the first time in years. The cane was supposedly for comfort rather than for medical need.
Her Platinum Jubilee next year will include a number of celebratory events, including a concert at Buckingham Palance and the monarch travelling around the United Kingdom.
