Melissa Chan-Green has been announced as co-host of Newshub's new breakfast show AM.
The AM Show will re-launch with a new name and new logo in early 2022, with Chan-Green joining Ryan Bridge, who took up the role of host in September this year.
Newshub's Director of News, Sarah Bristow, says the pair make an "irresistible combo".
"Mel is an extraordinary journalist with experience as a news reader, reporter and foreign correspondent. Along with that credibility, she’s also so much fun and a great conversationalist, which is a winning mix in the mornings," Bristow said in a statement.
"Since Ryan joined The AM Show, we have seen audiences respond with share growing in almost every demographic. They love what he is bringing to the mornings and together, Ryan and Mel will be an irresistible combo."
Chan-Green will continue to present Newshub Live at 6pm with Mike McRoberts until Samantha Hayes returns from maternity leave in January next year.
Chan-Green has been with Newshub, which is now owned by Discovery, for 14 years. During her career she has covered events such as the Arab Spring uprisings, the funeral of Nelson Mandela, the Gallipoli centenary and the Paris terror attacks, as well as reporting from several Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Rugby World Cups.
She said in a statement that she "couldn't wait" to join the new morning show with Bridge, who she called "a brilliant broadcaster and a great friend".
Former political journalist Bridge said he was also eager to show Kiwi audiences what the team had been working on behind the scenes.
"The opportunity to build a brand new morning telly show was not to be missed. The icing on the cake is doing it all with my good mate Mel at my side," he said.
"She's charming, smart and there's a genuine warmth to her that I know our viewers are going to love."
Bridge and Chan-Green will be joined in the studio by a news and sports presenter, as well as a roving weather reporter, whose identities have yet to be revealed. The show will offer a mix of news, entertainment, sports and weather, airing on Three and available online at ThreeNow.
