Controversial broadcaster Piers Morgan has unleashed on Meghan Markle's latest television appearance, saying the Duchess of Sussex behaved like a "desperate reality TV star".
Morgan, who has long criticised Meghan and said he doesn't believe her claims about having poor mental health while living in the United Kingdom, has written a new column for The Daily Mail after the Duchess appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday.
The interview, which covered topics ranging from motherhood to Halloween costumes, is the latest in a line of television appearances she and her husband, Prince Harry, have been involved in since they fled the UK in 2020 for the US, wanting independence and privacy from the press.
In his article, Morgan said he had felt so nauseous as watching the interview, which he describes as a "comically cringe-worthy collision between the world's two most narcissistic, fake and irritating female celebrities".
At one point he said he "needed my sick bucket to go 'ew, ew, ew'".
He noted both women have been at the centre of allegations around bullying.
"Unsurprisingly, bullying in the workplace didn't come up as a topic of discussion last night. Nor did Princess Pinocchio's trashing of the Royal Family and monarchy, the institutions she professes to detest but milks like a greedy dairy farmer."
Buckingham Palace launched an investigation in March after it emerged former aides of Meghan's had complained about her behaviour, feeling forced out of their jobs by her bullying. The Palace said it was "very concerned" about the allegations, but Meghan claimed them to be an "attack on her character" and meritless. The results of that inquiry aren't expected until next year.
DeGeneres has also faced issues relating to bullying. A large number of former staff members on her television show accused members of its management of harassment and of allowing a toxic culture. The chat show host apologised for this last year.
Morgan said Meghan's appearance on the TV show may be a surprise to anyone who had been "conned" into thinking the Duchess left the UK last year because she "craved privacy for her family from the beastly British press".
"It turned out she didn't want privacy at all, she just wanted to get away from anyone that might take a negative view of her constant whining and rank hypocrisy.
"And of course, she wanted to get away from having to perform the often arduous and unexciting royal duties that go with having a title like the Duchess of Sussex."
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Meghan said she had suicidal thoughts when working as a senior royal, saying that she was under intense scrutiny - including in the media - and struggled with life in the UK.
Both Meghan and Harry have spoken about the press' intrusion in their lives. In October 2019, Harry wrote that Meghan had become "one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences".
Morgan said on Saturday Meghan is now exploiting her royal name to make money off appearances and sales of her children's book. He wrote that Meghan was degrading the reputation of the royal family, including by taking part in a prank with Ellen with some street vendors.
"Last night's Ellen debacle exposed Meghan Markle's desire to be a jobbing C-list reality TV celebrity, not a jobbing A-list royal. But even a Kardashian would have deemed that street vendor stunt beneath them and brand-damaging.
"That's how puerile and embarrassing it was. For a British royal to demean herself in such a way is completely unacceptable. Not just because it made Meghan Markle look ridiculous, but because it made the British Monarchy look ridiculous."
He again called for the Queen to strip Meghan of her royal title.
Morgan quit his high-profile gig on Good Morning Britain earlier this year amid an influx of complaints for him saying he didn't believe claims by Meghan that she had mental health issues while living in the UK. Media regulator Ofcom later cleared Morgan of breaching any broadcasting code.
