An emotional Nick Cannon has revealed his five-month-old son Zen has died from brain cancer.
"Over the weekend I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus that is pretty much a malignant, midline brain tumour - brain cancer," he said on his talk show The Nick Cannon Show.
The infant was Nick's baby with model Alyssa Scott - his seventh child, having fathered six more with other women.
Nick fought through tears as he explained that he had taken his young son to be checked out after noticing a cough and "interesting breathing", but thought it would be a "routine process".
Nick said Zen had developed an abnormal increase in the amount of fluid in his brain after doctors discovered the tumour. The baby had undergone brain surgery and was given a shunt to help drain the fluid, but things took a turn for the worse at Thanksgiving.
"Ultimately, it was cancer in the brain and the tumour began to grow a lot faster," the comedian said.
"And so we knew that time was -" he began before breaking down.
"This weekend I made a valid effort to spend the most quality time I could spend with Zen," Nick continued.
"I got to spend the weekend with him and I woke up on Sunday and was like, 'I feel like I want to go to the water.' We got a chance to go to the ocean."
"Not only did we get to see the sun rise, we got to see the sun set," he added.
The former Wild 'N Out star praised Zen's mother Alyssa for being the "strongest woman" he knows.
Nick told his studio audience he didn't know how he was going to handle filming his show, but that he "wanted to grieve with his family" and wanted the episode to be a "special show dedicated to his beautiful son".
"I'm here to show that I can fight through this," he said.
