The Omicron case accused of breaching their self-isolation is reported to be DJ Dimension.
A source told Newshub the UK DJ - aka Robert Etheridge - is the person who visited multiple locations in Auckland.
Dimension was booked to play the Rhythm and Alps festival, but has withdrawn at the last minute.
The Ministry of Health says the case arrived on a flight from the United Kingdom on December 16 and after three negative tests in MIQ was allowed to complete their final three days in self-isolation.
However the ministry says they did not wait for a negative day nine test before leaving self-isolation and visiting several places including a popular nightclub, bar and restaurant.
One of the locations of interest listed by the Ministry of Health was Impala, which Dimension allegedly visited between 11pm on Sunday 26 and 3am on Monday 27.
The venue was hosting an organised private function for 30-40 people for Boxing Day. A source told Newshub Dimension wasn't invited to the party but showed up anyway.
They said Dimension spent much of the night in the smokers' area outside.
Venue management are now working with health officials. They were extremely surprised and disappointed to learn of the positive test result.
"Dimension went out knowing he was pending his final test result which was in breach of the COVID MIQ guidelines and has put others at risk without them knowing," the source said.
The ministry wouldn't confirm the person's identity, saying it doesn't comment on individual cases unless there is a public health need to do so.
"There will likely be a further update in tomorrow's statement," a spokesperson promised.
Dimension also posted photos to social media on Christmas Day showing him on a Waiheke beach, saying: "Merry Christmas from New Zealand."
Newshub understands Dimension should have been self-isolating during this period. These photos have since been deleted after a torrent of angry comments from Kiwis.
Newshub emailed Dimension's management team for comment but got an out of office response saying they'd be back next year.
The Rhythm and Alps festival confirmed Dimension and fellow DJ Friction will not be playing at the Wanaka festival due to the "ongoing impact of COVID".
Friction posted an update on his Instagram story saying his absence was due to being in the vicinity of a potential COVID case.
