Broadcaster Joe Rogan has announced a potential move from Twitter to Gettr following recent actions the social media platform has taken to combat COVID-19 misinformation.
The podcaster and former Fear Factor host publicised his new account on the pro-Donald Trump platform after Twitter censored US politician Marjorie Taylor Greene and prominent anti-vaxxer Dr Robert Malone.
"Just in case shit over at Twitter gets even dumber, I'm here now as well. Rejoice!" Rogan stated in a post on Gettr.
He also tweeted: "Join me on GETTR."
Rogan posted the messages on the same day Twitter permanently banned Greene's account for her repeated sharing of COVID-19 misinformation.
Dr Malone is infamous for exaggerating his role in the creating of mRNA vaccines and promoting vaccine hesitancy. He appeared on Rogan's podcast days after Twitter suspended his account for the same reason Greene was banned - repeated violations of its COVID-19 misinformation policy.
YouTube subsequently removed Rogan's interview with Dr Malone, in which he made outrageous and unfounded claims including that authorities in the US are hypnotising society in relation to COVID-19 in what he said was the same way Nazi Germany hypnotised masses of people in the 1930s.
Spotify has not removed the material and despite Twitter banning Dr Malone's account, snippets of his statements to Rogan can be found on Twitter.
Gettr was founded by former Donald Trump aide and spokesman Jason Miller and launched in July, 2021.
It quickly attracted controversy as a reported hotbed for Islamic State and far-right extremists due to its lack of moderation, which is also said to have allowed the proliferation of child exploitation imagery (CEI) among other problems.
In late 2021 Twitter had close to 400 million active users while Gettr reportedly had around 400,000 daily average users.
