Prince William believes his brother Prince Harry has "been sucked into an alien world" and "crossed a line" with the barrage of accusations he and wife Meghan Markle have made against the royal family, sources have told British media.
According to a lengthy report by the Daily Mail ahead of the Duke of Cambridge's 40th birthday, the pair's relationship remains at "rock bottom", with Prince William alternating between grieving for losing his friendship with Harry and being "really, really angry" about what his brother's done.
The British royals were thrown into disarray in early 2020 when Prince Harry and Meghan blindsided family members by announcing they were stepping down as senior members of the monarchy for a life of independence in the US.
Since then, the pair have signed deals with entertainment companies, gone on speaking tours, and conducted several high-profile interviews where they've made numerous accusations - including of racism - against senior royals.
The Mail report, which is based on interviews with William's friends, says the eldest prince believes Harry has "crossed a line". The pair were last together when Harry and Meghan travelled to the UK briefly for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, but reportedly spent very little time together.
"William is absolutely allergic to drama, but Harry has ensured that the family laundry is being aired on a global scale," one friend is quoted as saying.
"I think they will find themselves in a better position in the future, but not now. And too much water has gone under the bridge for things to ever go back to the way they were.
"Truthfully, William thinks Harry has been sucked into an alien world and there's f*** all he can do about it. But he does want Harry to be happy, and if he stops throwing dust in their faces, then maybe he will find a way to forgive and forget."
Another friend said William has a "low tolerance" for people disrespecting Harry and is keeping the door open for some reunion.
The Mail also reports that William has never entirely got along with Meghan, believing her to be "too showbiz" for his liking.
He continues to be angry that she "massively disrespected" his wife Kate Middleton during the infamous sit-down interview with Oprah, the Mail says.
During the 2021 interview, the Duchess of Sussex claimed that Kate made her cry ahead of Harry and Meghan's wedding and that Kate later brought her flowers to apologise. That contradicted previous reports which suggested it was the other way around.
"It obviously never occurred [to Meghan] that they were a peace offering, not an apology," the Mail reports an insider as saying.
"Despite much provocation, both William and Catherine have tried to keep the peace more than anyone will ever realise."
