Legendary rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers are returning to New Zealand for two stadium shows in January 2023, featuring American rapper Post Malone.
The band will perform in Auckland at Mt Smart Stadium on January 21, 2023 before heading south to Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium on January 26.
The 'Californication' hitmakers commenced their global tour last month in Spain following the release of their new album, Unlimited Love, with the quartet returning to stages 'Around the World' for powerhouse performances featuring their latest tracks, as well as classic hits from their almost 40-year career.
The tour also marks the return of the band's iconic, long-time guitarist John Frusciante, who officially rejoined the lineup in 2019 after a 10-year break.
The band, who have been going since 1983, has provided the soundtrack for successive generations as one of the best-selling acts in history. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, the Los Angeles quartet - Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Frusciante - have collected six Grammy Awards, sold 80 million albums, generated 5 billion views on YouTube and gathered 22 billion streams on Spotify, averaging 21 million monthly listeners on the platform.
Music and pop culture magazine Rolling Stone awarded their acclaimed albums Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), Californication (1999) and By The Way (2002) places on its coveted "500 Greatest Albums of All Time," while the 1991 alt-rock anthem 'Under the Bridge' secured a spot on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2021.
During their touring career, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have performed to tens of millions worldwide, headlined Coachella and became the only band to sell out three nights at Hyde Park in London, selling over 200,000 tickets.
In April, the band unveiled their new album and twelfth full-length offering, Unlimited Love - their first recording with guitarist Frusciante since 2006 and first with producer and long-time collaborator Rick Rubin since 2011.
Joining the New Zealand leg of the tour is chart-topping superstar Post Malone. Among the best-selling music artists globally, with more than 80 million records sold across four albums, Malone is the recipient of 10 Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards and one MTV Video Music Award, as well as having six Grammy Award nominations to his name.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 11 at 12pm in Dunedin and 1pm in Auckland.
