Where the Crawdads Sing actors felt immediate chemistry together

The wait is over for fans of the best-selling novel Where the Crawdads Sing with the movie adaptation just landing in Kiwi cinemas.

One of Hollywood's fastest-rising stars plays the lead role of Kya - British actor Daisy Edgar-Jones.

You know when Reese Witherspoon loves a book this much that a movie won't be far away.

"I loved the book Where the Crawdads Sing and I wanted to turn it into a movie. The same feelings you get when you read the book, you're gonna have when you go see the film," she said.

And when Taylor Swift loves that book just as much, well she writes a song about it which she went on to offer to the filmmakers.

The bestseller Where the Crawdads Sing is beloved the world over. The story of a young girl, abandoned, living alone in the marshlands of North Carolina is part-murder mystery but at all times an incredibly powerful story of resilience and love.

In the pivotal lead role - her first - of the 'Marsh Girl' Kya is Daisy Edgar-Jones. Opposite her as the refreshingly authentic and loyal Tate is Taylor John Smith.

And despite the fact they had to audition together in these COVID times only via Zoom, their chemistry was immediate.

"It felt like I'd known you forever. When we finally got to hang we had to be separated because we cracked too many jokes and giggled too much," Smith said.

Where the Crawdads Sing has just opened in cinemas across the land.
