Evicted Masked Singer NZ contestant Simon Bridges says he felt "cheated" by his Retro Robot costume and was perhaps unhappy with the options he had.
The former National Party leader had performed a rendition of '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman' by Aretha Franklin and had gone up against Magic Monster, who took on Lewis Capaldi's 'Something in the Water'. But despite a jaw-dropping rendition, the Retro Robot was booted off the show on Sunday.
But speaking to The Project on Monday, Bridges joked that he wasn't so keen on the costumes he was offered for the show.
"I feel somewhat cheated by that because I got to choose between the robot and the pie. There was never a magic monster, there was never a blue penguin, I literally had the Retro Robot. So, you know, life's not fair."
Despite his costume woes, Bridges said being on the Masked Singer was his favourite of all the "crazy" game shows he's appeared on.
"There's something about putting a mask on and going on the stage and being brave and singing about being a natural woman. I actually really enjoyed it," he said.
As for who the other contestants are, Bridges revealed he doesn't actually know which celebrities are on the show.
"They take that quite seriously. They give you this big gangster rapper robe that you're wearing and a baseball cap and sunglasses and there's a team of them, so most of the staff don't know, other contestants definitely don't," he said.
"I didn't have anything to do with the other contestants."
The Masked Singer continues weekly on Sunday on Three and on ThreeNow.
