Stan Walker on working with his musical heroes

Stan Walker is one of the most well-known names in the Aotearoa music scene and he has continued to impress fans, with his seventh studio album set to be released on Friday.

The musician's latest album features a star-studded array of musicians including Kings, Scribe, Jess B and JoJo.

Walker was at The Project desk to talk about the album and what it was like working with 2000's pop icon JoJo.

While speaking on The Project, Walker said working with the 'Leave, Get Out' singer was something he had been wanting to do for years.

"Long story short, she started following me on Instagram and then we had mutual friends and they said, 'Oh Stan is a big fan', and she said, 'Oh my God, I am a big fan', and then we started working together over lockdown and then we finally did a song together and it's on my album and that's my biggest flex. I can die now, happy."

The musician was also part of helping Disney's The Lion King which was reimagined in te reo Māori.

"That whole experience was probably one of the most incredible experiences of my life," Walker said.

"First of all, Lion King is my favourite film of all time. I had to sing Elton John's big beast classic 'Can You Feel The Love' in our language in te reo Māori.

"Rob Ruha also putting my baby's name in there. I will forever have that and my kids will forever have that. When Elton John gave the okay for the first time in history that it could be translated into another language and it was me I was like leshgo!"

Walker's new album All In is out on Friday.
